April Sakaluk

Moksha Yoga, Moksha Flow, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga teacher.

My love for yoga began in 2007 when I had moved to Calgary to start a new dance partnership. We decided on having yoga as an important part of our physical conditioning regime. Right away we forged a strong attachment to our yoga practice as we saw our bodies getting stronger and flexibility improving. We then decided to invest in some private classes with a local instructor to get more in depth knowledge and this changed our practice immensely. I had been working through residual tension and injuries after doing ballet seriously for 20-some years and it was important for me to take care of this so I could keep dancing and feel healthy. I began to notice that on the days we did yoga our bodies not only felt better but we were also more focused and productive.

In 2009 I began to find myself increasingly drawn to the mat. I realized that it had become my rock in life: it played a huge part in helping me overcome struggle. Even through some difficult times I found joy on my mat.

My father, who was a huge influence in my life, always encouraged me to follow my dreams. So when he passed away in 2011, I decided that I would take the leap and began looking into becoming a yoga instructor. In early 2012 I began moksha yoga teacher training in Brazil. I fell head over heels in love with the moksha community and knew my life had changed.

This new life direction has been a calm and focused pursuit for me. Every day I am honored to be able to share my passion of yoga through teaching. I’m so grateful to the amazing teachers who have mentored me, and even more so to our students that inspire us daily!
